The Bias Diagnosis: Gender Injustice in Healthcare

I spent a few months working on this Audible podcast for Whistledown. I enjoyed working as part of a bigger team; usually it's just Phoebe and I, or just me, but this time I was lucky enough to work with the wonderful people that are Bridey Addison-Child, Gabriela Jones, and Anishka Sharma. Between us we found some truly incredible contributors who should have been treated so much better by our healthcare system, and who tell their stories so movingly.

I'm grateful to have spoken to them and enraged on their behalf. I led on three episodes: reproductive care; pregnancy and pain. It's a weird thing, being a woman or an AFAB person means almost certainly having a stranger poking about your vulva and beyond every three years at least; and from that alone, I'm sure we all have stories of pain, embarrassment, humiliation, gaslighting and just general fuckery, even if on a much smaller scale than the stories featured here. It has to stop. There are some incredible people working to change things, and it's worth me shouting out a couple of great organisations who are doing just that: check out the Campaign Against Painful Hysteroscopy, Pregnancy Sickness Support and Queens of Eve.
